What size is a mug sublimation template?
A standard 11 oz sublimation mug is commonly printed with a full-wrap template of about 8.5 × 3.5 inches (2550 × 1050 px at 300 DPI). That's the mug's circumference minus a gap around the handle, where the press can't reach and the paper can't lie flat. Larger mugs and different brands need different sizes, which is why measuring your own blank is worth the minute it takes.
How to measure your mug
- Circumference: wrap a strip of paper around the mug at its middle and mark where it meets. Measure the strip.
- Printable height: measure the straight part of the body, from just below the rim to just above where the bottom starts to curve.
- Handle gap: measure the width between where the paper would touch each side of the handle. Add a little space so the paper isn't bent against the handle joint.
Full wrap vs. two-sided vs. front only
- Full wrap: one design that goes all the way around, from one side of the handle to the other. Use the main size above.
- Two-sided: two separate designs, one on each side. The tool splits the wrap in half and leaves a little space in the middle.
- Front only: a single design facing the drinker (left-handed and right-handed people see opposite sides, so two-sided is safer for gifts).
Pressing your mug
Tape the paper tightly at both ends so it can't shift, and make sure there's no air gap at the top or bottom edge. Mug presses and convection ovens need different settings. Check the time and temperature chart for starting points, and always test on one mug before a batch.
Frequently asked questions
What size is an 11 oz mug sublimation template?
A common 11 oz mug full-wrap template is about 8.5 × 3.5 inches, or 2550 × 1050 pixels at 300 DPI. Measure your own mug's circumference and height to confirm.
How much space do I leave for the handle?
Usually around 1.5–2 inches total, depending on the handle. Measure the area where paper cannot lie flat and enter it as the handle gap.
Which side of the mug faces a right-handed person?
When a right-handed person holds the mug, they see the left side of the design (with the handle on the right). Two-sided designs avoid this problem.
